Are Privacy Laws A Joke?
At times, you may think so, but laws in general, are created because people dispute what common understanding they have beyond a handshake.
Basically privacy laws were implemented to provide guidelines to protect a businesses privacy as well as any person’s privacy. Basically privacy laws define how personal or private information can be used when dealing with another business or person.
Disclaimer
No I am not an attorney and basically anything you read on any of my sites is my opinion.
I am a data processing consultant who solves problems and that requires facts, not myths, otherwise I got no business being in business. As far as business and as legal as I can get right now though, you can visit: SLZ & Associates Legal
Aside from that, rest assured, that anything you publish publicly on the Internet or have ever published publicly, personal, private, business or otherwise is probably in a database somewhere and that data is useful or useless to whoever for whatever, whenever.
With the advent of cell phones and the fact that any vocal or other information transmitted over air waves can legally be used in court of law to help you or hurt you. But I guess that would depend on if you have access to the publicly information about you. The private information collected about you and being sold on you, you must pay for, just like anyone else wanting that information.
In my opinion, the only real suggestion I have about privacy these days is be very careful what you say and do (if you are up to no good), and wear nice clothes so you look good on your own satellite channel.
Right now you may be laughing about my opinion on things, but you won’t be when the truth smacks you upside your head. Besides that, I play in a band and if I could personally beam up all the video and audio through a satellite, from wherever I happen to be, then all the legal mumbo-jumbo work is done. All that is left is final production. By the way most cell phones have those (limited) capabilities already.
Privacy Laws are very important for everyone and everything, that is a fact. As far as doing business off-line or on-line there are already quite a few laws enacted.
If you are going to do business on-line through an Internet business site you may be required to have a Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, Disclaimers, Purchase Agreements, Refund Policy, Advertising Policy, Spam Policy. Basically in all cases, you must define the types of rules, policies, agreements and disclaimers that a customer is entitled to know about when information is being collected about them or from them.
Please keep in mind that long before the Internet became publicly accessible, it was only privately accessible by government. And lastly as you well know, ignorance of the law is no excuse for not being compliant in business.
In summary, Privacy Laws are not a joke. There are just as important as many other enacted laws.
