Hiking In The Berkshires
having come back from a camping trip in the Berkshires in MA, I am sore and weathered from the many hiking, climbing, and swimming trips that my pals and I went on. This area has, without a doubt, some of the most beautiful attractions I have seen. It is no wonder everybody on the trip was always looking forward to get to our next journey. From the tops of the mountains, to the forest trails, to the lakes and streams, there is relaxation and fun to be discovered just around the bend.
The first area that we traveled to was an area referred to as Tannery Falls, where there were hiking paths along a few scenic streams and waterfalls. When we reached the first and largest waterfall, my friends and I stopped for a much deserved rest by walking waist deep in the cold pool of water below the falls. I don’t think five minutes passed before my friends and I were all climbing up the waterfall, taking breaks in the small pools on the way up to the pool at the top, also known as “The Oasis.” Once at the top of the waterfall, we spent a lot of time there eating, swimming, throwing rocks into the pools below and once and a while posing for pictures snapped by hikers on the actual trail.
Our second journey was a lake somewhat in close proximity to our campsite in Savoy. It [certainlydefinitely] wasn’t the largest lake that I have ever seen, but it was so peaceful and inviting that I was compelled to swim more. Toward the middle of the lake, there is a rock shaped like a seat that comes out of the lake about a foot. As my friends and I discovered, seats four with ease. This rock is where we watched the sunset of our second day camping, and let me tell you, it was one to remember.
Our third and last adventure destination was a place called the Windsor Jambs. The Windsor Jambs is a long stretch of stream, lined with cliffs and massive stones that are just right for climbing. We walked the hiking path down to the bottom of the Jambs and got ready for our adventure back up through the boulders and waterfalls. a few times I had to resort to my Nikon 8×40 binoculars to see what obstacles lay ahead, and confidently make a way to safely pass them. As well as being extremely fun, the Jambs are sort of dangerous, but very beautiful.
After the three day camping trip crammed with exciting days and wacky nights, I can positively say that I wish I could have stayed longer. I highly recommend you to experience the Berkshires in MA the first opportunity you have. Bring your family for a camping trip, or just make a couple days for you to simply unwind and take pleasure in nature. Whatever adventures or relaxations you choose to indulge in, I promise you will be astounded by the beauty and freedom of these mountains.
