Putting Together An EBook – Second Part
In the first part of this article I talked about the process of writing an eBook and leaving it to stew using a few tools that are essential ”Web Marketing For Estate Agents“. This next part takes you further down the process in the editing phase and then to make it look good.
The Edit Phase
In the course of the two days of letting it stew I knew that I had to change a couple of things. A few of the tools I habitually use in my business I hadn’t included so they were added in, a couple of things were taken out as they were not essential and typos, bad choices of sentence structure and grammatical errors were changed. I sent the rough copy out to four people for feedback and they were all totally positive about the content and provided excellent ideas for further development.
Prettyifying
Part of the editing process is making the book look good. The font chosen was clean and easily readable, Hiragino Mincho ProN, (Which was a new one on me but looks great on both the page and iPad) and got the images using the website sxc.hu and my on photos taken using the Sony a230 and the Kodak Zi8.
Issues
- It still lacks a good ecover. If you fancy helping out on that just get in touch
- The version for the Kindle that I have uploaded looks horrible. If anybody knows about how to make a Kindle book look good then call again.
- The epub version caused many problems as objects cannot be “floating” or “background” they must be “inline” meaning the full bleed effect is not allowed. Again therefore it doesn’t look as good as yet as the pdf version.
- If anyone can tell me how to incorporate individual app store links to tools rather than a generic app store link that would also be cool.
The Sales Page
The first version of the sales page was placed at www.realestateprotips.com sucked according to a couple of friends, they are still friends. One suggested I really should tell the story behind the book. So I did. And you can find it there right now. Another told me why no video? You make great videos. So the video tells the story. It has the traditional big “Buy Now” buttons, the story and the headline and hopefully the copy is interesting. Some split tests will be upcoming when we look at conversion. I used the them template Optimize Press. It is a bit of a learning curve despite the excellent videos but if you are comfortable in WordPress then it shouldn’t present too big a challenge. It is a very flexible theme that you can use for launches, product pages, video embeds and a whole lot more. Well worth the cost, I believe it is still just $97, Optimize Press just gets better and better.
In the final article of this process I will tell you more about the ebook promotion and using affiliates to promote the book for you
