The primary role of physical therapists is to assist patients in re-establishing their ability to perform some of the most basic movements associated with their daily activities. In this way, patients gain some improvements in the way they live their lives. There was a time when a simple bachelor’s degree in accredited physical therapy schools was enough to make someone establish a great and financially rewarding career in physical therapy.

There are many places that accommodate an aspiring physical therapist. Hospitals are usually in need of PTs that can specialize in geriatrics, acute care or orthopaedics. There are also outpatient clinics that are experts in sports medicine or rehabilitation that have high demands for speech therapists as well as occupational therapists.

Usually, patients needing physical therapy are those affected by genetic disorders or those who developed severe injuries. Physical Therapists conduct assessments to evaluate the conditions of the patients so they could arrive with specific treatments while making sure that the patients are somehow feeling comfortable and least vulnerable to further injury. But now, despite obtaining a diploma on Physical Therapy from a top physical therapy schools is no longer enough to make a good career. It still enables PT graduates to earn income but not to build a promising career. Some even resort to becoming a physical therapist assistant. A PT graduate can automatically apply for a direct-entry to a Master’s study – a 2-year program where the 1st year is spent in classroom learning and the 2nd in clinical internship}.

The Master’s degree program is especially designed for those who already have a Bachelor’s degree. By enrolling to it directly as soon as they graduate, new physical therapists will already be able to pursue their dream to build a career as physical therapist without re-enrolling in the courses that they have already acquired.

Aside from that, there are two other Doctorate degrees in physical therapy. The first one is the direct-entry Doctorate that is offered to those who hold a Bachelor’s degree in an unrelated course. This program runs for three years. The second one is the transitional Doctorate program specially designed for those who want to further build their expertise in the field.
