Research For Effective Search Results

Do You Research For Effective Search Results?

A desired search result requires effective research to build a long term online presence for an Internet business.

Acquiring a specific domain name for your business, product or service helps you brand that name to your business efforts. And if your effort is worthwhile, well…..maybe you too can become a household name!

What…..HOUSEHOLD NAME?

……..Well okay maybe not a household name, but at least something memorable so people don’t forget the name……..

Acquiring an effective, memorable domain name is a good idea and definitely can help when the name is relevant, but there is still more necessary research involved to get a long standing search result.

IE…JohnDough ,  JoeDough, HerbSpice

Assuming you did some research and have a name, next would be getting your name positioned as a result of a search term.  (IE.. word…a.k.a…keyword) and phrase (a.k.a…….keyword phrases) on the Internet. Better still multiple keywords and multiple keyword phrases.

IE…Joe Dough Money Maker, Herb Spice Salads

Keywords are primary description terms (IE…that fit in categories*) and of course keyword phrases (IE…that fit in sub-categories*) and their various references determine what type of search results can be found in all the data at your site.

*Categories and sub-categories were used as references in this text to help you understand how to structure your online business information (data about your business, product or service) so that it can be easily referenced by a search engine for placement within search results.

*In comparison, groups of information and topics within your site can be sorted into categories and sub-categories and labeled that way for easy reference by visitors.

Semantic terms and long tail keywords within your data can also give it some depth.

Remember that whatever you are doing; you are fulfilling a need with your business,  providing a solution to a problem and bringing a product or service into virtual existence through your Internet business presence.

Years ago on the Internet small phrases of two or three words were easy to get placed in search results, due to limited competition for words and phrases.

Today though those same small two or three word phrases are now a part of larger four, five, six and seven word phrases.  The more people publish information, the bigger the Internet gets and more information is out there to be found.  Search engines find the information, index it, categorize it and then present it back to people looking for specific data.

IE…Entrepreneurs, Joe Dough and Herb Spice find pizza and salads to be a real money maker!

So it stands to reason, if you are going to expect to get your information found on the Internet, you will need to identify the exact top level specific search areas where your information belongs. In addition you will need to research the amount of supplemental (IE..additional) data that exists in categories and sub-categories below the top level search. Once you have this information, you can then include long tail keywords and semantic terms within your data.

IE…Joe Dough’s long-held family secret pizza dough recipe, created by his brother John, combined with salads designed by Herb Spice, present delightful old and new world tastes for almost every palate!

Basically if you do not research and evaluate what search engines or the Internet in general is feeding back to visitors, you are very severely limiting your chance of getting your data found on a consistent long term basis.

Okay great, now that you have an idea of just how in-depth your data must be, where do you start?

To cover most search results, use at least three search engines that are providing relevant results in your area of the world.

If you are a U. S. business, it may be best to start with Google, Yahoo and Bing.  These search engines provide generic search results as well as paid search results.

Remember that people pay to get their information listed for relevant keywords and phrases to advertise their business, products and services.

Paid advertising can be very expensive especially for highly searched words and phrases.

On the other hand, paid advertising is a great way to get noticed immediately, rather than waiting around for your efforts to yield long term search results. Paid ads are usually used to prime the pump or get things started for long term exposure. Unfortunately though when you stop paying for advertising, the flow of qualified traffic responding to your ads stops.

To establish long term generic unpaid advertising and develop authority in your field of expertise, create essential back end data that captures and retains the attention of visitors resulting from paid traffic.

Once you have captured an audience for your expertise, product or service resulting from paid ad efforts, you can then decide to reduce or maybe even stop your ad spend altogether relative to your efforts for that specific campaign.

Researching for effective search results requires you to think like a customer and develop a frame of mind you can use to do your own specific research on a regular and consistent basis. Consistently checking for search results related to your business on a regular basis can will yield long term results.

Basically, cultivate the soil, plant the seeds, water them, fertilize them, give them light and dark, prune as needed, harvest in season and do it again at regular intervals on a consistent basis!

Do these search results matter?

They matter for long term exposure. Results that do not appear on page one are still very relevant and are found on the basis of phrases and keywords existing in the information over time.

Page one results are usually very relevant for a specific period of time, as in the case of building a campaign directed towards your business, product or service.

Page one results are also very relevant for specific niches and/or brand names targeted for your business, product or service.

Relative to researching my own generically named “very small business” sites, I am more focused on exposing products, services, information and resources (like hosting, articles, web sites, membership, etc.) available to very small business customer’s through the very small business sites.

Basically, I get results from acquiring and creating products and services I need to run my own very small business, so I can in turn, help other very small businesses tackle their problems too!
